Let Bob carve a customized walking stick or staff made from genuine mountain laurel. It is wood that is native to the southern mountains that looks like ivory when carved, and it is light, but extremely strong and durable. To my knowledge no other artists use these for carving because even though there is an ample supply, the wood grows usually in steep hard to access thickets or “hells,” and as a result it is very difficult to harvest. This of course, only makes the carving more unique.
Bob can carve a figure or face on the stick, strip the bark entirely, or leave part of it on. He can also finish it naturally or use a clear polymer that will protect and preserve the wood. You can pick a figure or face from Bob’s designs or customize according to your needs. But either way, no sticks are identical as they are all shaped differently and even standard designs will differ slightly depending on the grain and size of the stick.
Bob also does basswood, walnut and laurel figurine carvings of dogs, bears and people.
